The Eastgate Centre in Harare, Zimbabwe was built in 1996 by architect Mick Pearce as an office and shopping center. Investors provided very little money for the building’s expensive
cooling system, so the architect faced a major challenge. He was the first architect to base his design on the system of a termite mound. The design makes the best use of local climatic conditions. - “At night, the air cools the building; during the day, the building cools the air.”
